Cake…it’s so damn deceptive looking, so beautiful with swirled frosting, enticing colors, and whimsical decorations. Hiding layers of gooey, sticky, chalky, dry, crumbling, doughy yucktastic-ness. My body convulses while my brain says “God that looks good” and my brain always wins out, I force myself to walk over to the cake; taking the polite “oh just a small piece please” and as I sit down taking the tiniest bite, I instantly regret it. My body shakes, I try to force my stomach to calm down, my head shakes while my face contorts, the reaction is much like someone with Aspergers or Turrets. That damn cake gagged me again, I thought for all of it’s beauty I’d be set free, able to enjoy something that by all rights should taste as good as it looks. It’s much like the hot guy, he’s hot until he opens his mouth and you can’t for the life of you remember why you thought he was good looking or what you were thinking.
So I’m dedicating this whole blog post to all the other desserts out there that don’t look as pretty as cake, but taste a whole hell of a lot better and are probably cheaper and have less attitude.
Pie…what you think pie is just for the pilgrims or Village Inn? ohhhh think again, look what you can do with pie!
You like cake pops? Why not some pie pops? I mean who doesn’t want pie on a stick?
And whatever this tower thing is, it’s amazing!
Don’t like pie? No problem, here are a few other ways that cake does not have to make an appearance at the reception:
Doesn’t that just look so elegant? I don’t know what cajeta is but it looks like caramel and there is nothing wrong with caramel.
Cookies…you can’t go wrong with cookies, there are over 101 cookie recipes out there, there possibly could be more but I’m not sure, I have five cookie cookbooks that implicitly say “101 cookie recipes” I dare not question the cookie gods.
Do you get my point now? There are so many other things you can do for desserts at your wedding. ”Let them eat cake” is just so Marie Antoinette, you can do better when feeding your “masses”
Cheers,
